Chrome Extension · Last updated: February 20, 2026 · Effective date: February 20, 2026
MyPing Speed Test ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that displays your public IP address with approximate geolocation and measures your internet connection speed (ping latency, download speed, upload speed).
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Extension accesses, how it is used, and what it does not collect. By installing or using the Extension, you agree to the practices described in this document.
The Extension does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal data to the developer or any developer-controlled backend. All network requests serve a single, transparent purpose: measuring your connection in real time.
To display your current public IP address and approximate location (country, city, region), the Extension makes outbound HTTP requests directly from your browser to the following third-party services:
| Service | Purpose | URL |
|---|---|---|
| ipinfo.io | IP, country, city | https://ipinfo.io/json |
| ipwho.is | IP, country, city (fallback) | https://ipwho.is/ |
| Cloudflare Trace | IP, country code (fallback) | https://1.1.1.1/cdn-cgi/trace |
| ipify (IPv4) | IPv4 address only (fallback) | https://api4.ipify.org |
| ipify (IPv6) | IPv4/IPv6 (fallback) | https://api64.ipify.org |
| ifconfig.me | IP address only (fallback) | https://api.ifconfig.me |
These requests originate directly from your browser. The Extension does not receive, log, or forward the responses. Fallback services are tried only if the primary service is unreachable or returns incomplete data.
To measure ping, download, and upload speed, the Extension sends and receives test data to/from the following servers:
| Server | Purpose | Operator |
|---|---|---|
*.techdatacloud.org:8443 | Primary speedtest | Developer-operated |
| speed.cloudflare.com | Speedtest fallback | Cloudflare, Inc. |
Speedtest traffic consists solely of randomly generated binary data used to measure throughput. It contains no personal information, browser fingerprints, browsing history, or any other user-identifiable content.
The developer's own servers (*.techdatacloud.org) do NOT log IP addresses, test results, or any request metadata. Nginx access logs are disabled.
The Extension periodically (every minute) measures ping latency in the background to display a live ping badge on the extension icon. These requests are lightweight probes sent to the same speedtest servers listed above. No data is stored or transmitted beyond measuring round-trip time.
The developer does not collect, store, process, or have access to:
The Extension uses Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage) exclusively to persist user preferences on your local device:
| Stored value | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Custom server URL | Optional user-defined speedtest server (set in Extension Settings) |
No IP addresses, geolocation data, test results, or session information are ever written to local or synced storage. All measurement data is discarded immediately after display.
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
| Permission | Reason |
|---|---|
| storage | Save user settings (custom server URL) locally |
| alarms | Schedule background ping measurement every minute |
| host_permissions | Authorize network requests to the speedtest and geo lookup services listed in Section 2 |
No permissions beyond those required for core functionality are requested. The Extension does not request access to tabs, browsing history, cookies, microphone, camera, clipboard, or any other sensitive browser API.
When the Extension contacts third-party services, those services may process your IP address in accordance with their own privacy policies. The developer is not responsible for third-party data practices.
| Service | Privacy Policy URL |
|---|---|
| ipinfo.io | ipinfo.io/privacy-policy |
| Cloudflare | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| ipwho.is | ipwhois.io/privacy-policy |
| ipify.org | ipify.org |
The Extension is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
If this Privacy Policy is updated, the new version will be published with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy, please contact the developer via the Chrome Web Store listing page.
